In "Don't Give Up The Sheep", unlike all of the other Sam& Ralph episodes in which he is employed by the same company as Ralph(they punch into the same clock), Sam seems to be independently contracted by a third party, a predator temping agency or is self-employed as a coyote.
It is safe to assume then that between 1942 and 1943, whatever company Ralph worked for bought out Sam, or his employer or hired him on as full time labour.

I watched "Don't Give Up The Sheep" and wondered if the flipping tongue of the lustful hedonist coyote in his introduction sequence might have been a source of inspiration for “If they bottled sex…”

Marie, I draw a lot of influence from botht he imagery in cartoons like this and the internal logic that, now almost 60 years old, allows us to believe that dogs and coyotes hold down jobs...or that pigs buy houses, or that the pursuit of desire leaves us open to terrific violence(anvils dropped on heads).
It was great seeing you at the opening and would love to have you by the studio before I take off for Berlin.
